This is also known as an antioxidant mini profile. See each individual test discussion for information. Vitamin A and Vitamin E may share the same specimen tube. Plasma vitamin C requires special preparation and handling. A tube of heparin or EDTA blood is collected. The sample is centrifuged immediately and 3.0 mL of plasma is added to 4.5 mL of COLD 3 percent metaphosphoric acid. Vitamin E is performed on serum. Protect from light and ship in an amber plastic tube. Vitamin A, C, E, B12, Folate Profile See each individual test discussion for information. Vitamin A and Vitamin E may share the same specimen tube. Vitamin B12 and Folate may share the same specimen tube. Folate and B12 must be protected from light. Vitamin A, E, Beta Carotene, Lutein, Lycopene Profile See each individual test discussion for more information. This is also known as the lipid soluble antioxidant profile. All tests are performed on serum. The specimen must be protected from light. Vitamin A absorbance is read at 325 nm; vitamin E is read at 294 nm; B-carotene is read at 450 nm; lycopene is read at 446 nm; and lutein is read at 454 nm. Expected values are :
