Helicobacter Pylori Antibodies — IgG

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a bacteria that has been implicated in ulcers of the stomach and duodenum. It may also be associated in type B gastritis and dyspepsia. The association of H. pylori with gastric carcinoma is unclear. This test has a high sensitivity (96%) to H. Pylori. The use of the specific IgG serology test allows a check for chronic infections from H. pylori. Treatment with appropriate antibiotics will usually destroy the bacteria.

The principle of the test is ELISA.

The normal ranges established in our laboratory for H. pylori are:
Positive=titer equal to or greater than 20 units/mL
Negative=titer less than 12.5 units/mL
Equivocal=titer between 12.6 and 19.9 units/mL.
Test should be repeated after two weeks.
