Cytotoxic Food Sensitivity Tests

Cytotoxic Food Sensitivity Tests

Negative Allergic Reaction

1+ Allergic Reaction

2+ Allergic Reaction

3+ Allergic Reaction

4+ Allergic Reaction

  • Turn-around time = 5 to 7 days
  • Specimen is 10 mL whole blood collected in an ACD tube filled to maximum capacity. Please see specimen handling for exact instructions.

This test may be ordered in various combinations on patients suspected of having food or additive allergies. The "Basic Test" consists of 24 common food allergens. The "Standard List #1" includes 90 different food allergens and additives. "Supplemental List #2" consists of 88 different allergens and additives not found on the other list. A special list may be made from any of the allergens and additives from the other lists. A “Special Preparation” can be made from any antigen furnished by the patient (which is not included on the other lists).

The sensitized cells react with a specific allergen (purified antigen and additives). The reaction is a combination delayed (Type IV) and immediate (Type I) reaction. Allergic reactions are read under a light microscope at 400x power. The results are graded as negative (same as negative control), plus 1, plus 2, plus 3 and plus 4.

Methodology is a microscopic evaluation of allergic reaction.
