This test may be ordered in various combinations on patients suspected of having food or additive allergies. The "Basic Test" consists of 24 common food allergens. The "Standard List #1" includes 90 different food allergens and additives. "Supplemental List #2" consists of 88 different allergens and additives not found on the other list. A special list may be made from any of the allergens and additives from the other lists. A “Special Preparation” can be made from any antigen furnished by the patient (which is not included on the other lists). The sensitized cells react with a specific allergen (purified antigen and additives). The reaction is a combination delayed (Type IV) and immediate (Type I) reaction. Allergic reactions are read under a light microscope at 400x power. The results are graded as negative (same as negative control), plus 1, plus 2, plus 3 and plus 4. Methodology is a microscopic evaluation of allergic reaction. Selected References:
